What is the current range of sentences available to future judges?

Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

The following excerpt is from R. v. Bennett, 2014 CanLII 6417 (NL PC):

In The State of Western Australia v. Doualeh, [2014] WASCA 3, at paragraph 24, it was suggested that while “for consistency it is necessary to have regard to sentences customarily imposed in cases involving similar offending, the range of sentences that have been imposed in the past does not fix the boundaries within which future judges must, or even ought, to sentence.”
