Is an employer required to compensate an employee for his moving expenses and costs of selling his home?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Lewarton v. Walters, 1985 CanLII 677 (BC SC):

I am satisfied, however, that the weight of the authority is that there must be an agreement expressed or implied to compensate an employee for his moving expenses and costs of selling his home, such as arose in the case of Munana v. MacMillan Bloedel Ltd., June 1, 1977 (unreported). This is not such a case. If I were able to award those costs to the plaintiff I would do so, but I am impelled to conclude that the weight of authority is against that relief and accordingly, I find myself unable to award those expenses to the plaintiff.
