The phrase “in relation to” commonly appears in statutes and other legal writing. It describes in broad terms a connection between two things: Nowegijick v. The Queen, 1983 CanLII 18 (SCC), [1983] 1 S.C.R. 29, at p. 39. In s. 490.1(1), it describes a connection between the property sought forfeited and the offence.
