What jurisdiction does the court have in an action in which damages are sought?

Saskatchewan, Canada

The following excerpt is from Sick's Prince Albert Brewery Limited v. Central Cold Storage Limited, 1954 CanLII 203 (SK CA):

That jurisdiction must appear on the face of the pleading was clearly laid down by this court in Rose v. Dilke (Village) 1925 CanLII 176 (SK CA), [1926] 1 WWR 85, 20 Sask LR 259. That was a district court action in which declaration was sought that a certain tax sale of land was invalid. No damages were claimed. The value of the lot was but a few hundred dollars, well within the jurisdiction of the district court. If any damages had been claimed within the jurisdiction of the court it would have been a perfectly valid action in the district court, but no damages having been claimed this court held that the district court had no jurisdiction.
