What is the state of the law in relation to the status quo principle?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from V.S. v. G.S., 2011 ABQB 818 (CanLII):

The Defendant points out however, that the present disposition should be unconcerned with the interim arrangement put in place by Chief Justice Wittmann, which was made on without prejudice basis. Instead, the status quo principle should be applied based on the situation that existed when the children were first born and G.S. was their primary care-giver. G.S. also relies on Richter v. Richter, 2005 ABCA 165, 371 AR 1, in support of this position.
