What is the current state of the law in Canada relating to confessions?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from R. v. Sawchyn, 1981 ABCA 173 (CanLII):

This argument, if applicable to these facts, postulates a recent and sweeping change in the law of Canada relating to confessions. It urges the abandonment of the test of admissibility set forth in Ibrahim v. The King (supra) and adopted in Canada in Boudreau v. The King (1949) 1949 CanLII 26 (SCC), S.C.R. 262 and in The Queen v. Fitton (1956) 1956 CanLII 28 (SCC), S.C.R. 958. This is said to be the result of Horvath v. The Queen (supra) and Ward v. The Queen (supra).
