Similarly, in Grigg v. Berg Estate (2000), 31 E.T.R. (2d) 214, the court was able to adopt a ready-made expanded definition of spouse to read in because the British Columbia legislature, after the case was heard June of 1999, but before judgment, passed legislation in July 1999 redefining spouse and common-law spouse. Hence, the court was comfortable in adopting and reading in the new definitions as constructed by the legislature.
