Is it appropriate for the wife to collect arrears of maintenance for the first time?

Saskatchewan, Canada

The following excerpt is from Tulik v. Tulik, 1983 CanLII 2191 (SK QB):

The applicant contends that to allow the wife to collect the arrears of maintenance now would be to allow her to “hoard” that amount. The applicant suggests that the arrears be restricted to one year’s maintenance, “a practice sanctioned” by the court in MacKenzie v. MacKenzie (1974), 1973 CanLII 1956 (SK QB), 12 R.F.L. 192.
