What is the real and basic change brought about by the amended s. 11(1) limitation period?

Saskatchewan, Canada

The following excerpt is from Hackett v. Ginther and Schedlosky, 1986 CanLII 2912 (SK CA):

The real and basic change brought about by the amended s. 11 is that a further party could be added, where no prejudice was shown, even after the limitation period had expired. It is not the kind of conceptual change which was being considered in Perrie v. Martin, supra, but rather a change which permitted the limitation period to be extended in certain cases, which is really nothing more than an amendment dealing with an extension of a limitation period.
