What is the impact of remarriage on non-compensationary or needs-based support?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Hutchen v. Hutchen, 2014 BCSC 729 (CanLII):

While remarriage may not have much impact on compensatory support, it may have considerable impact on non-compensatory or needs-based support. Remarriage of a recipient spouse may not immediately shift a burden of support to the recipient’s new partner, but it can begin a process of transfer of the obligation to support the recipient spouse: Kelly v. Kelly, 2007 BCSC 227.
