What is the impact of remarriage on a compensatory support case?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Merali v. Merali, 2009 BCSC 1857 (CanLII):

More fundamentally, however, it is important to emphasize that remarriage is a much less important factor in compensatory support situations that it is for needs-based support; see Kelly v. Kelly, 2007 BCSC 227 at para. 49. This makes sense because the social obligation model underlying needs-based support means that the responsibility of support will begin shifting to the new spouse and will increase with the length of that marriage.
