In what circumstances will a court order indefinite support for a wife who has not given birth to a child?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Schmuck v. Reynolds-Schmuck, 1999 CanLII 15000 (ON SC):

In Reid v. Reid (1997), 33 R.F.L. (4th) 145 (N.B. C.A.), the court upheld the trial judgment which ordered indefinite support for the wife after a nine year marriage where there was one child on the basis that the promotion of self-sufficiency is only one factor to be considered pursuant to section 15(7) of the Divorce Act.
