What are punitive damages for conduct in the manner of dismissal?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Chan v. Dencan Restaurants Inc., 2011 BCSC 1439 (CanLII):

Unlike damages for conduct in the manner of dismissal, which are compensatory, punitive damages are awarded for advertent wrongful acts that are so malicious and outrageous that they are deserving of punishment on their own: Honda v. Keays, at para. 62. Although I have been critical of the manner in which Mr. So forced the plaintiff to resign, I cannot find that his conduct, or that of any other official of the defendant company, reached the level of malicious or outrageous conduct giving rise to an award of punitive damages.
