What are the damages for the manner of dismissal of a plaintiff?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Beggs v. Westport Foods Ltd., 2010 BCSC 833 (CanLII):

Damages are also claimed arising from the conduct of the defendant for the manner in which the plaintiff was dismissed. Citing the Albert v. Conseil Scolaire decision, counsel for the plaintiff argues that because of the manner of dismissal, damages should be awarded to the plaintiff under this category.

In the Bru v. AGM decision, the plaintiff suffered from mental distress and anxiety, and was awarded damages for the defendant’s breach of good faith obligations in the manner of its dismissal. Those damages included non-pecuniary damages for mental distress and pecuniary damages for the plaintiff’s loss of capacity to earn income while she was depressed.
