Does a plaintiff have to pay for two separate medical opinions?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Prehara v. Royer, 2007 BCSC 912 (CanLII):

The plaintiff appears to have pursued the second evaluation out of excessive caution. That does not justify the expense being borne by the defendants. Viewed objectively, it was not reasonable (at the time or at all) to incur this expense for the purpose of the proceeding and, in particular, to prove the plaintiff’s total disability: McKenzie v. Darke 2003 BCSC 138.
