After much consideration I have come to the conclusion that the broader connotation must be appropriate. I feel the word “support” as used in the subsection in question must mean as much as “maintenance” when that word is used in matrimonial causes. It means more than the bare necessities of life. See Acworth v. Acworth [1943] P 21, 112 LJP 37, where “maintenance” is defined as a sum sufficient to provide “the necessaries, comforts, and advantages incidental to her station in life.”
