What are the implications of an undertaking in an affidavit?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from Gardner v. Gardner, 2007 ABQB 578 (CanLII):

Institutional measures are defined in MacDonald Estate v. Martin , supra. Such measures include ‘Chinese walls’ and ‘cones of silent’ (para. 51). Undertakings and conclusory statements in an affidavit, standing alone, are not acceptable as this is no more than a lawyer saying, ‘trust me’ (para.52).
