Is there an express or implied agreement between the spouses that one has the responsibility to support and maintain the other?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Garrett-Rempel v. Garrett-Rempel, 2000 BCSC 1275 (CanLII):

With respect to whether there was an express or implied agreement between the spouses that one has the responsibility to support and maintain the other, the parties did enter into the Separation Agreement. Although the existence of this Agreement is not a bar to this application, it does operate as strong evidence of the position of the parties at the time that it was made. Willick v. Willick, 1994 CanLII 28 (SCC), [1994] 3 S.C.R. 670.
