may lawfully stop a vehicle based on a reasonable suspicion that there has been a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation (People v. Rorris, 52 A.D.3d 869, 870, 859 N.Y.S.2d 272 [2008] ), where, as here, the officer's belief is based on an erroneous interpretation of law, the stop is illegal at the outset

and any further actions by the police as a direct result of the stop are illegal (Matter of Byer v. Jackson, 241 A.D.2d 943, 944945, 661 N.Y.S.2d 336 [1997] ).
