The following excerpt is from People v. Simon, 1 Cal.5th 98, 204 Cal.Rptr.3d 380, 375 P.3d 1 (Cal. 2016):
A trial court has broad discretion when determining the admissibility of rebuttal evidence, and we review a trial court's decision to admit such evidence for abuse of discretion. (See People v. Valdez (2012) 55 Cal.4th 82, 170, 144 Cal.Rptr.3d 865, 281 P.3d 924 [absent palpable abuse, an appellate court may not disturb the trial court's exercise of that discretion].)
