"The standard of review of a new trial order has recently been stated thus: 'On appeal from an order granting a new trial, the sole question is whether the trial court abused its discretion. [Citation.] This court makes all presumptions in favor of the order as against the verdict, and this court will reverse only if manifest abuse of discretion is shown. [Citation.]" (Caldwell v.
