In June 1989, a jury found Welch guilty of six counts of first degree murder in a single incident occurring on December 8, 1986. It also found him guilty of two counts of attempted murder in connection with the same incident and one count of concealing a firearm as a felon. The jury found true a multiple-murder special-circumstance allegation. (Pen.Code, 190.2, subd. (a)(3).)
