What is the Attorney General's interpretation of a section of the California Civil Code that states that a defendant has been denied credits on appeal?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Guzman, 40 Cal.App.4th 691, 47 Cal.Rptr.2d 53 (Cal. App. 1995):

The Attorney General interprets this passage as a waiver which precludes defendant from raising on appeal the factual issue whether the court correctly awarded credits. "The reason for this rule, of course, is that 'the trial court should be given an opportunity to correct the [mistake]....' [Citations.]" (People v. Green (1980) 27 Cal.3d 1, 164 Cal.Rptr. 1, 609 P.2d 468.)
