What authority exists to remove a judge from office for gross misconduct?

"New York", United States of America

The following excerpt is from Pfingst, Matter of, 409 N.Y.S.2d 986 (N.Y. Ct. Jud. 1973):

3 What little authority there is to the contrary (see, e. g., Jacobs v. Parham, 175 Ark. 86, 298 S.W. 483; Ann., 42 A.L.R.3d 691, 707-712) is at odds with the manifest salutary purpose, underlying the provision of our Constitution, authorizing removal of a Judge, namely, to purge the judiciary of Judges who have, by their conduct, manifested their lack of character and fitness to continue in office.
