What is the state of the law on confidentiality of confidential documents?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from United Services Funds (Trustees of) v. Richardson Greenshields of Can. Ltd., 1988 CanLII 2993 (BC SC):

Counsel for the superintendent requested the right to make further submissions regarding the confidentiality of any specific document. I consider this to be reasonable, considering the scope of this application and the results. It should be considered that I approve the reasoning of Merrill Lynch v. Granove. However, should she believe the disclosure of any particular document will result in more injury to the public interest than value to the court process, there is liberty to apply.
