Accordingly, the request to adjourn the trial was denied. However, based upon Rai v. Rai, 2016 BCCA 261, at paras. 20-22, and E.D.A. v M.A.A., 2014 BCSC 1084, at paras. 16, 18 and 20, I granted the respondent leave to make submissions at the trial, if he wished to do so. The respondent arranged for counsel to briefly attend the trial but such appearance lasted only a few hours and no one appeared on his behalf to make submissions.
