Is there a legal presumption against suicide?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Beckon v. Deputy Chief Coroner (Ont.), 1990 CanLII 8049 (ON SCDC):

There is a legal presumption against suicide. It must be overcome before a finding of suicide may be made. There was no reference in the charge to the presumption. In my opinion that alone would render the charge fatally defective. The presumption is of the same effect now as when attempt suicide was a crime: Greening v. Commercial Union, supra. It is rooted in the general conviction that a finding of suicide is grave in the highest degree and that its consequences are serious.
