The four guiding principles with respect to penalty at discipline hearings are general deterrence, specific deterrence, rehabilitation, and maintaining public confidence. We considered these principles, together with the cases cited by the parties, in concluding that the proposed penalty was reasonable in the circumstances of this case: Law Society of Upper Canada v. Strug, 2008 ONLSHP 88.
