Does a father have a duty to control the actions of his adult son's mental health?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Moushi v. Stephen, 2019 ONSC 3125 (CanLII):

The Mother submits that Canadian courts have repeatedly held that individuals do not owe a duty to third parties to control the actions of independent adults, including the former’s adult children.[28] The Mother places particular reliance on Irvine v. Smith,[29] in which the father of an adult son was found not liable for the son’s acts while the son was experiencing a period of mental illness.
