While in many cases the actual lost income will be the most reliable measure of the past loss of earning capacity, given that damages are based on the value of the work the plaintiff would have but was unable to perform, this is not necessarily so. The measure of the loss may vary where circumstances require and evidence of the value of the loss may take many forms: Ibbitson v. Cooper, 2012 BCCA 249 at para. 19.
