What is the appropriate length of notice for a plaintiff's notice of dismissal?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from Elliott v. Southam Inc., 1988 CanLII 3482 (AB QB):

In determining the length of notice which is appropriate in these circumstances, I have considered the criteria set forth in Smith v. Tamblyn (Alta.) Ltd., supra. In addition, the plaintiff has been unable to obtain comparable alternate employment as at the date of trial. It has been agreed that his efforts to obtain such employment were reasonable. I am of the view that 15 months is the appropriate length of notice to which the plaintiff is entitled.
