While the length of this common-law relationship is not as great as in some of the cases it was not brief. For some four years or more the parties resided together in a marriage-like arrangement, sharing household expenses and contributing to household duties. It is not easy to determine with precision the value of the services provided by the plaintiff during this period. In my view, this is a case, like Hubar v. Jobling, where it is appropriate to grant a monetary award that is determined in accordance with a value survived approach.
