Is the solicitor's Handbook relevant or relevant in determining the professional standard of conduct of a solicitor?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Lefebvre v. Gardiner, 1988 CanLII 2869 (BC SC):

This ruling does no more than state that which has been expressed by the courts in Cavallin, Tracy v. Atkins and Blown in a convenient form for the guidance of members of the bar. It is in the authorities, not in the ruling, that I must look for the principles I am to apply in determining the nature of the relationship between the parties before me. Were a professional standard in issue or the scope of the fiduciary obligation of a solicitor, then the Handbook might be pertinent. On the issue before me, it is not.
