What is the test for giving consideration to a recipient?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Steele v. Doucet, 2020 ONSC 3386 (CanLII):

If the recipient paid consideration, there is no gift. The amount of the consideration or the fact that the other party may have contributed more, is irrelevant. Whether consideration was paid, and not the amount, is the test: see Carroll v. Garnett, 2016 ONSC 2863, at para. 55.
