In the past there was a distinction between marriages alleged to be void and those that were voidable. Any court was considered to have jurisdiction to declare a marriage void, as a void marriage was considered a nullity everywhere and for all purposes. By contrast, a voidable marriage would have to be brought to an end by a court where both parties were domiciled or were resident: Feiner v. Demkowicz[4].
