What is the appellate court's role in assessing reasonableness of a verdict?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from CRC Creditor Resources Canada Ltd. v. Kasdorf, 1999 CanLII 4672 (BC SC):

The appellate court's function when assessing the reasonableness of a verdict is set out in Corbett v. The Queen (1973), 1973 CanLII 199 (SCC), 14 C.C.C. (2d) 385 at 389: [T]he question is whether the verdict is unreasonable, not whether it is unjustified. The function of the court is not to substitute itself for the jury, but to decide whether the verdict is one that a property instructed jury acting judicially, could reasonably have rendered.
