Can a plaintiff claim damages for loss of housekeeping capacity when a member of their family is not available?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Mann v. Klassen, 2001 BCSC 652 (CanLII):

There is no doubt that in appropriate circumstances a claim for loss of housekeeping capacity is appropriate. This is so even where the services have been replaced gratuitously by a family member. However, the evidence must support the claim. Following McTavish v. MacGillivray, the plaintiff must show that the services provided either caused direct economic loss to the provider or replaced expenses which would have been incurred if he or she had not been available.
