What is the standard of care expected of a registered nurse of average competence?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Menard v. Northern Health Authority, 2009 BCSC 507 (CanLII):

Even if I am wrong in this conclusion, no expert evidence was led to establish the standard of care expected of a registered nurse of average competence (Tekano v. Lion’s Gate Hospital et al, [1999] B.C.J. No. 1763, para. 109). Indeed, the only evidence led in this case is that of the nurses themselves who provided explanations and reasons for their actions and decisions.
