What is the test for spousal support?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Preus v. Hemstad, 2009 BCSC 690 (CanLII):

The defendant is strongly opposed to any order for spousal support. He argues that the evidence demonstrates that the plaintiff has suffered no economic disadvantage arising from her marriage or its breakup. She has been in her current employment since April 1989, her employment is secure and she has not indicated any intention to either upgrade or change vocations. Accordingly, he argues there is no need for ongoing spousal support based on either a compensatory basis (Moge v. Moge 1992 CanLII 25 (SCC), [1992] 3 S.C.R. 813) or a needs-based basis (Bracklow v. Bracklow, 1999 CanLII 715 (SCC), [1999] 1 S.C.R. 420).
