What is the range of spousal support for a long term relationship?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from Simpson v. Simpson, 2000 ABQB 638 (CanLII):

[12] Need, standard of living and ability are primary considerations in determining the amount of support on the breakdown of a long term marriage. The longer the relationship endures, the closer the economic union, the greater will be the presumptive claim to equal standards of living upon its dissolution. Further, when there is a long term relationship and the wife has been the primary caregiver, not furthering her employment opportunities, spousal support of an unlimited duration may be appropriate (Moge v. Moge (1992) 1992 CanLII 25 (SCC), 43 R.F.L. (3d) 345 (S.C.C.)).

In Rogers v. Rogers, (unreported, April 15, 1999) (B.C.C.A.), where spousal support was awarded. The marriage had lasted 25 years and the wife had played the role of full-time homemaker and caregiver throughout the marriage. The wife had no skills and had been unsuccessful in entering the work force. Separation Agreement and Court Orders
