Does a spouse's relationship with a new partner change her spousal support award?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Bockhold v. Bockhold, 2010 BCSC 214 (CanLII):

Further, as the award of spousal support in this case is primarily compensatory in nature and is meant to remedy the plaintiff’s economic disadvantage arising from the marriage and its breakdown, her new relationship may be irrelevant: J.W.J. McC. v. T.E.R., 2007 BCSC 252 at para. 98. Where a spouse has suffered an economic disadvantage from the breakdown of a marriage, entering into a new relationship does not change that underlying fact: Lauderdale v. Lauderdale, 1999 ABQB 453 at para. 13, 50 R.F.L. (4th) 411.
