What is the test for a claim under s. 22(2)(a) of the Federal Courts Act?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Avina v. Sea Senor (Ship), 2016 BCSC 749 (CanLII):

It is not for me, on this application, to determine the validity of the plaintiff’s claim. That is a matter to be determined at trial. I am satisfied, however, that the claim is a claim “with respect to title, possession or ownership of a ship or any part interest therein” within the meaning of s. 22(2)(a) of the Federal Courts Act. Pursuant to Sargeant v. Al-Saleh, it is therefore rooted in Canadian maritime law.
