What is the legal test for establishing that there are two separate groups of directors in a society?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Brown v Brousseau, 2021 BCSC 151 (CanLII):

A similar order was considered by this court in Riley Park Hillcrest Community Association v. Waterston, 2014 BCSC 1605 [Riley Park]. In that case, there was a dispute between two groups within a society, both of whom claimed to be duly elected directors. The dispute resulted in uncertainty, not only with respect to the constitution of the board, but also with respect to the identity of the members and the legitimacy of the memberships accepted by the society. Noting that uncertainty affected the ability of the society to carry out its business, the court held that “[t]he necessary first step is to place the issue of the identity of the directors before a properly constituted annual general meeting of the [s]ociety”: Riley Park at para. 100.
