Can a lawyer be removed from a record because of a conflict of interest?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from 2235512 Ontario Inc. v 2235541 Ontario Inc., 2016 ONSC 1956 (CanLII):

While our courts “…repeatedly have emphasized the right of litigants not to be deprived of their counsel of choice without good cause”, this principle “…is tempered by ongoing concern to maintain the high standards of the legal profession and the integrity of the justice system, and this includes the courts’ inherent jurisdiction to remove from the record lawyers who have a conflict of interest” (see Rice v. Smith).
