In imposing a penalty for contempt in a family law proceeding, courts have imposed periods of imprisonment where there has been misconduct in the upper range of seriousness. In Paton v. Shymkiw, supra, Steel J. noted the need for restraint and stated, “Imprisonment should be imposed only in cases of the most serious, deliberate disobedience” (para. 42).
