In what circumstances will a judgment be substituted for the specific relief claimed?

Manitoba, Canada

The following excerpt is from Hallett v. Hallett, 1982 CanLII 2938 (MB QB):

In Page v. Page, supra, upon denial of the specific relief claimed, a money judgment was substituted. In the present case counsel for the plaintiff during argument acknowledged that defendant is not in a position financially to satisfy a money judgment and expressly disclaimed relief of that nature.
