Orders for non-compensatory support arise when the evidence demonstrates the dependence has arisen over the course of a middle to long-term relationship, such that one party would bear the brunt of the financial consequences of separation substantially more than the other: Bracklow v. Bracklow, 1999 CanLII 715 (SCC), [1999] 1 S.C.R. 420.
