What is the testator's position when it comes to the distribution of a testator’s shares in a will?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from Wright v. Bell, 1890 CanLII 19 (ON CA):

It stands in a very different position from a bequest to A. and the children of B. Here no grandchild is to take except in the event of his parent dying, pointing I think very clearly to the testator’s intention that he should take his parent’s share and no more. See Policy v. Polley, 31 Beav. 303.
