Application of this rule also impinges on the issue of identity of the person who committed the charged offense. Evidence of motive may " '... [32 Cal.App.4th 1611] solve a doubt, ... "as to the identity of the slayer, ..." [and] is admissible against a defendant, however discreditably it may reflect on him, and even where it may show him guilty of other crimes.' " (People v.
