What are the consequences of a spouse’s claim for reapportionment and spousal support?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from D.G.A. v. K.J.A., 2003 BCSC 1736 (CanLII):

I choose to consider the wife’s claims for reapportionment and spousal support together. In Moge v. Moge, 1992 CanLII 25 (SCC), [1992] 3 S.C.R. 813 at 849, the majority stated that an equitable distribution of the financial benefits of the marriage may be achieved by spousal support, by a division of assets, or by a combination of the two.
